On Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Justice (EDIAJ) with Andrew Adridge and Opera InReach

The Opera InReach workshop was a resounding success for my studio at U of T. The facilitators, Lyndsay and Andrew, created an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance in the zoom room and the students were engaged by their impassioned and articulate presentation. The leaders were respectful while challenging the status quo on a variety of topics. The participants were left with a feeling of been a part of the larger discussion and were inspired to act.

On “UofT and Me: My Journey Through Student Life and What Comes After”

Thank you again for a really engaging talk! I know the students really benefitted from hearing the insights of a voice of experience, whose autobiographical reflections on personal and professional growth, and self-definition were delivered with a divinely self-deprecating wit, and with a refreshing vulnerability. It was a pleasure to take it all in.

Lyndsay Promane is a compelling performer and, after a three-day residency at the performing arts school where I teach, it is clear to me that she is just as compelling as a speaker. In two separate talks with students between 14 to 18 years old, Lyndsay spoke with depth and clarity about a wide range of topics that encompass the various aspects of her career as a 21st-century musician. Her style is engaging and thought-provoking, and the students were noticeably energized by the interactive nature of the talks. Lyndsay’s strengths as a performer — including her expressivity and adventurousness as well as her technical skills and knowledge of the repertoire — translated directly into a conversation that was fascinating, informative, and fun.

On “Do It For the Gram: Discovering Your Personal Brand

The workshop that Lyndsay came in to run for The Phoenix Leadership Project's monthly workshop series was astounding. It was educational and gave excellent insight into social media's importance and nuances and creating a personal online brand. Lyndsay was an absolute pleasure to work and communicate with and was an incredibly engaging speaker who was a real delight to watch. If anyone is looking for someone to educate on this increasingly relevant topic, I would recommend Lyndsay's "Do It For The Gram: Discovering Your Personal Brand" workshop. It's clean, informative, engaging, and overall a pleasure to partake in.

It was truly a pleasure having Lyndsay lead a workshop for us at Opera inReach. Her comfort at the "podium" created a great ambiance and really welcomed the group to engage with her. The information was well-delivered and provided much needed insight to those whom attended. The response from the group was incredibly positive and it made for an informative afternoon that inspired a great discussion at the end of the workshop.

Absolutely appreciated how the workshop centered on creating content that was meaningful or relevant to potential content creators, rather than chasing likes or garnering the most followers. Also appreciated the emphasis on setting boundaries and allowing one's self to really stick to these boundaries.

On “The Importance of Selling Out: Owning the Fullness of You”

In “The Importance of Selling Out: Owning the Fullness of You”, Lyndsay Promane offers an honest and direct class for emerging artists that was full of practical approaches to the artists’ journey from school into a career. Using her life experience, she engages in discussion and shared learning with the class resulting in a real world conversation that involved everyone in the Zoom room. Lyndsay is honest, funny and inclusive as a facilitator, and I know the participants left that class feeling empowered to claim the career they want as artists.

Lyndsay Promane’s talk “The importance of selling out” for the “From the Voice of” Community was the talk I wished I had heard as a young artist. Brutally honest, funny, sincere and a talented speaker, Lyndsay was THAT SINGER in opera school who had crazy drive and single-minded determination until she discovered she wasn’t happy with the world she had created. So, with the same drive and determination, she set about to create an artistic life that now works for her unique gifts and values. Lyndsay is a role model for anyone looking to step into the fear of finding their unique path and following their own journey as an artist.

Lyndsay’s workshop on being a "sell-out" was a breath of fresh air. So often as emerging and young artists, we are imprisoned by the belief that you must give and sacrifice everything for your art or else you will not be successful. This workshop was incredibly validating for an artist like myself who is striving to find a way to blend my passion for performing with my love of education and community outreach. Lyndsay speaks about her experience as an artist with such honesty and vulnerability and creates a safe environment for attendees to assess their values and definition of success. She helps you discover the groundwork for what it means to “own the fullness of you”.
