Mentor

Lyndsay was a founding member of the mentor team with Opera InReach. With chapters in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia, Opera InReach is a collective of active artists dedicated to examining the civic impact of opera. It is accomplished through diverse programming, engaging and accessible education, and providing ongoing mentorship opportunities.
While she was a student at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, Lyndsay participated as a mentor with the Music Mentorship Program. This allowed students in similar programs to connect and provide an ongoing mentorship experience throughout the school year and beyond.
Lyndsay was a contributor to the mentorship platform EM2 Connect. This community-based platform aims to engage both performers and teachers by offering ongoing mentorship, professional development and peer-to-peer connection opportunities. Its primary mandate is to replace competition with community.

Philosophy

Lyndsay believes that encouraging curiosity while taking increasing risks are the keys to a successful student experience at any age. She empowers her students to remain compassionate towards their own strengths, challenges, and learning styles as a musician while they gain autonomy and build their “toolbox” of skills. This is supported by using a combination of precise musical terminology and abstract imagery. In order for her students to find and use their unique voices as artists, Lyndsay engages them in ongoing self-evaluation and reflection exercises as well as creating their own definitions of success and excellence.
